The Feynman Lectures on Physics, Vol. I
Richard Feynman, Robert Leighton and Matthew Sands
Volume I covers mainly mechanics, radiation and heat, including relativistic effects, and comes out of the introductory course Feynman gave to Caltech undergraduates between 1961 and 1963. The linked copy is the New Millennium Edition of Volume I on its own, not the three-volume set.
Why you should read this
Transcribed from Feynman's undergraduate lecture course at Caltech, Volume I covers mechanics, radiation, and heat through his characteristic method of building physical intuition before formal derivation. Famously difficult to use as a first course despite being aimed at first-year students, and more often read today by working physicists than by the freshmen it was written for.
