Seven Brief Lessons on Physics
Carlo Rovelli
Seven short pieces, from general relativity and the quanta through the architecture of the cosmos, particles, grains of space and the heat of black holes, closing on where human beings fit. They first ran as newspaper columns in Italy, which is why each one is built to be finished in a sitting. The Italian original was published by Adelphi in October 2014.
Why you should read this
Rovelli compresses relativity, quantum mechanics, and cosmology into a handful of short essays originally written for an Italian newspaper column, aiming for a reader with essentially no physics background rather than a student audience. It became an international bestseller in translation, unusual for a physics book this short and this technical in subject matter.
