The Aleph
Jorge Luis Borges
The title story puts a point in a Buenos Aires cellar that contains every other point in the universe, all of them seen at once. Borges published the Spanish collection in 1949 with thirteen stories and added four more in the 1952 edition. The linked Penguin Classics volume is Andrew Hurley's translation, published as The Aleph and Other Stories.
Why you should read this
A short story collection built on Borges's recurring techniques of philosophical paradox and invented scholarly sources, with the title story often read as a concentrated statement of that method. Best for readers who prefer dense, idea-driven short fiction over character-based storytelling.
