The Forest of Stolen Girls
June Hur
Hwani returns to Jeju in 1426 to look for her father, an inspector who vanished while investigating the disappearance of a group of girls, and has to work with the younger sister she left behind. Feiwel and Friends published it in 2021.
Why you should read this
Best for YA readers who want their historical mystery grounded in real texture: this is set in Joseon-era Korea, on Jeju Island, and follows the investigative procedural conventions of the genre rather than romance-first plotting. Part of the same historical-mystery run as Hur's debut, though readable alone.
